Ryan studied medicine at Monash University after growing up in rural Victoria. His passion for rural health saw him become the president of Monash’s rural health club “WILDFIRE” in his second year on campus. After studying on campus, he completed his clinical undergraduate years in Bendigo, Lakes Entrance and various Melbourne hospitals. After graduating he moved to Geelong to complete internship and basic physician training at Geelong Hospital. Along the way he worked in General Practice, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology and the emergency department. After 5 years at Barwon Health he moved to the Austin Hospital, Melbourne to start advanced training in Cardiology. He returned to Geelong to finish his last year of cardiology training in 2014 before moving to Vancouver, Canada to complete further training in Echocardiography at the University of British Columbia and Vancouver General hospital.

In 2016 Ryan returned to Geelong to begin working as a specialist in Cardiology and General medicine at University Hospital Geelong. He also completing a 2nd fellowship in Cardiac electrophysiology and pacing at the Austin Hospital. He continues to work at University Hospital Geelong, Epworth Geelong, Colac (consulting at the Otway Medical Clinic), and the Austin Hospital in Melbourne.
